My first visit to a learning center in the slums south of Delhi was in 2010. I met Parvati, a girl who lives in a very basic house together with her parents and her brothers and sisters. Close to her home is a Learning Center, run by the Indian NGO Concern for Humanity. Parvati would attend private lessons with around 20 other kids in a simple room. All the kids have to go to regular school in the morning. Governmental schools aren’t great and teachers aren’t really motivated. That means a child could make it through school and not be able to properly write and read, even after years of classes.
This is where the Learning Centers come in. Kids, and especially girls, have the chance to get proper education in the Learning Centers and therefore a chance for a better future.
Arpana and Amit are running the organisation as their hobby. That means: close to 100% of the funds go directly to the Learning Centers and aren’t spent for administrative costs. Running a learning center costs around 6000 USD per year for rent, teachers salary, books etc. I personally will make sure that 100% of the money donated will go to the learning center. I will even compensate for the Paypal and Credit Card transaction fees.
Once you have made a donation, you will get a receipt and will be informed about the progress of the Learning Center.
If you would like to have more information, please visit the Concern for Humanity website or ask me personally. It’s also possible to visit the Center when you are travelling to India.
Thank you very much for your support.
